Permanent Bedding Sanctuary: Perennial HideOut Native Screen Mix
Our Perennial HideOut Native Screen Mix is the ultimate long-term habitat solution. This 3-way blend of native, warm-season grasses—Switchgrass, Big Bluestem, and Indiangrass—is engineered to grow into a massive, dense wall, creating an untouchable bedding, buffer, and security zone that can last for decades.
Strategic & Permanent Hunter Benefits
Year-After-Year Security: Unlike annual screens, this perennial blend requires only one planting to establish a permanent bedding habitat, saving you time and cost over the long run.
Maximum Screening & Density: These native grasses routinely reach towering heights of 8 to 10 feet, creating the densest visual and wind barrier possible for a tranquil deer sanctuary.
Direct Deer Traffic: Plant along entry paths or property boundaries to dictate deer movement and provide the ultimate stealth screen for hunter access to your stand sites.
Important Planting & Establishment Note
Initial Patience, Long-Term Payoff: Native grasses require patience during their slow establishment period (typically 2-3 years). We provide detailed guidance to help you manage weed competition during this time, ensuring a successful, permanent stand.
Mix Components & Specifications
| Component | Purpose | Percentage |
| Switchgrass | Rapid early growth, dense understory | 34% |
| Big Bluestem | Sturdy structure, excellent height | 33% |
| Indiangrass | Excellent vertical growth, year-round cover | 33% |
The "Fluffy" Factor: Bluestem and Indiangrass seeds have "beards" (awnings) and are very fluffy. They will not flow through a standard clover/brassica spreader. You will need a Native Grass Drill with an agitator or must mix the seed with a carrier (like pelletized lime or cracked corn) if broadcasting.
Prep is Key: This blend does not compete well with existing weeds in Year 1. A clean, "nuked" seedbed is mandatory for success.
