Driftless Late-Season Magnet: The Radish & Turnip Blend
Stop settling for empty food plots in the late season! Unleash the drawing power of the dual-action brassica engineered for maximum cold-weather attraction. These are not your average greens—this is a high-yield, high-energy magnet that gets better with every frost.
| Component | Type | Primary Role | Percentage |
| Daikon / Forage Radish | Annual Brassica | Soil aeration & early-to-mid season sugar attraction | 50% |
| Purple Top Turnips | Annual Brassica | High-protein greens & massive late-winter energy bulbs | 50% |
Why the 50/50 Brassica Split Wins
Double the Attraction: Deer first devour the lush, high-protein green tops (up to 20% crude protein). As winter sets in and the mercury drops, they eagerly dig up the massive, exposed purple roots and radish tubers for a critical source of late-season energy.
The "Biological Drill": The 50% Radish component features deep taproots that aggressively break up compacted soil. This improves drainage and soil health for whatever you plant next spring.
The Sweetness Factor: These plants are engineered to "sweeten" with the weather. After the first hard frost, the starches in both the turnips and radishes convert into highly palatable sugars, pulling deer from miles away.
Superior Hardiness: This blend stays green and attractive well after other food sources have withered or gone dormant.
Planting Specifications
| Method | Seeding Rate |
| Broadcast | 5 - 12 lbs / Acre |
| Drilled | 3 - 9 lbs / Acre |
Method of Seeding
Broadcast: Best for most hunters. Prepare a firm, clean seedbed. Distribute seed evenly and use a cultipacker or light drag to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
Drilled: Set your drill to a shallow depth (no more than 1/4"). This provides the most consistent germination and can allow you to stretch the 5lb bag slightly further.
| Feature | Requirement |
| Sun Requirement | Full Sun (6+ hours) preferred; tolerates partial shade. |
| Soil pH | Ideal: 6.0 – 7.0 (Tolerates 5.5 – 7.5). |
| Planting Depth | 1/8" to 1/4" deep. (Do not bury too deep; these are small seeds). |
| Seeding Rate | 5 lbs covers approximately 1/2 to 3/4 acre. |
| Maturity | 60–90 Days. |

| Climate Zone | Best Planting Window | Notes |
| Zone 1 (North) | July 15 – Aug 15 | Prioritize early August for maximum bulb growth. |
| Zone 2 (Transitional) | Aug 1 – Sept 1 | Ideal for catching late summer rains. |
| Zone 3 (South) | Sept 1 – Oct 15 | Wait for the heat to break; radishes love the cooler nights. |
